Payment processing for firearms dealers, gun shops and ranges
Some payment platforms restrict firearms sales, which leaves licensed dealers looking for a processor that will take them on. We help gun shops, ranges and FFL dealers apply with the right paperwork and explain the terms clearly. [PLACEHOLDER: Confirm the firearms experience TurnKey wants to state]
Who it's for
Licensed businesses that sell firearms, ammunition, accessories and related services.
- Federal Firearms License (FFL) holders and gun shops
- Shooting ranges and training providers
- Pawn shops that sell firearms
- Online firearms and accessory sellers [PLACEHOLDER: Confirm online firearms sales support]
How it works
- Step 1
Tell us how you sell
In store, at the range, at gun shows or online: each channel affects underwriting and equipment.
- Step 2
Prepare your documents
Your FFL and any state or local licenses go in with the standard application documents.
- Step 3
Underwriting review
We submit your application to an acquiring bank that accepts firearms businesses and answer the underwriter's questions with you.
- Step 4
Set up and go live
We program countertop terminals for the shop and wireless terminals for shows and events.
Pricing and terms
Firearms accounts are underwritten individually. Pricing, and any reserve, depends on how you sell, your volume and your history. [PLACEHOLDER: Firearms pricing approach]
- Written terms before you sign
- Wireless terminals for gun shows and events
- Help responding to chargebacks [PLACEHOLDER: Confirm chargeback support]
What to have ready
Having these on hand speeds up underwriting. We'll confirm the exact list for your business when you apply.
- Your Federal Firearms License (FFL) and any state or local licenses
- Government-issued photo ID for each owner with 25% or more of the business
- A voided business check or a letter from your bank
- Three to six months of business bank statements
- Three to six months of processing statements, if you take cards today
- Your business license and federal tax ID (EIN)
- Your website address and policies, if you sell online

Questions we hear
The questions merchants ask us most. Ask us anything else on a call.
Why do some processors decline firearms businesses?
Some payment companies limit firearms sales as a matter of policy, and online sales can carry higher chargeback risk. Licensed dealers can still get merchant accounts through acquiring banks that accept the industry.
Is there a separate card category code for gun stores?
A merchant category code for firearms retailers was approved in 2022, and its use has since been addressed by state laws, some requiring it and some prohibiting it. [PLACEHOLDER: Legal to confirm the current status of the firearms merchant category code and how TurnKey handles it]
Can I take cards at gun shows?
Yes. A wireless terminal with 4G works wherever there's cell coverage, so you can complete sales at your table.
Can I sell firearms online?
Firearms sold online generally have to be transferred through a licensed dealer, and state and local laws add their own rules. [PLACEHOLDER: Confirm whether TurnKey supports online firearms and ammunition sales]
Do you work with ranges and training businesses?
Yes. Range fees, classes, memberships and retail sales can run on the same terminals. [PLACEHOLDER: Confirm recurring billing for memberships]
